Anyone else excited about Falling From The Sky?
(29 posts)-
I can't wait! Okay, I admit, some of the excitement is because I got my story in. But still...it's given me an excuse to put links to your website all over my blog (again!) ;D
I've never had anything published before, except on my own website, so this is gonna be great. Anyone else looking forward to the anthology? Anyone else got their story in? Looking forward to ordering multiple copies and reading everyone's stories!Posted 3 years ago # -
very excited about the anthology! yes, i got a story in, but i also simply adore short stories... and collections of them, of course. more than anything else - okay, maybe not more than how excited i am that my story got in, but... almost more than anything else, i'm absolutely ecstatic that another sky press is putting it out!
why wouldn't it f-ing rock? why wouldn't it kick my donkey full in? why wouldn't it be the most amazing, unique, creative, diverse, incredible stack of organised paper ever printed? i simply have no answers to these questions...
so... let everybody know about this anthology. let everybody know that falling from the sky is just over the horizon. it's carrying a shiny spear in 1 hand, killer sandwich in the other. it looks pissed, but it's not... really quite friendly. it just can't help being so perfectly bad ass!
listen... gallop. gallop. clang. munch. it's coming!
pass it along to everybody, every last blasted biped! long live another sky press! peace!

Hi all-
Craig here, your occasionally humble editor. Glad to see people checking into the forums. I want to note right off that I am still reading and sorting through submissions, so please don't cast a hex 'pon me if you have not yet been contacted. I work long hours during the day (rising at 5:15 am is glorious!), so that factors into the process. I like to be fairly lucid when I evaluate the submissions. At least my social life is a shambles, right?
Self-deprecation aside, I'm charged to be working on this volume, and yes, it is going to be an amazing collection. Everyone accepted so far has written superlative stories that only enhance the excellence that shall be "Falling From the Sky."

Craig...no hexes for you...anyone who rises at 5:15am deserves a medal, I reckon! :-
barcodeart..."shiny spear in one hand, killer sandwich in the other"...a contender for the front cover there?! Made me giggle!Posted 3 years ago # -
kirsty- wonderfully funny you should say that... no spear or sandwich i'm afraid, but...

I'm very excited; I haven't read all of the submissions that have been accepted, but I have read some of them... and they're good. Very, very good. And there are still more submissions coming in. It's good to see - I think Craig's gonna have his hands full for awhile.Posted 3 years ago #

I didn't get an answer yet from Craig, although preliminary comments were good... I'm anxious to tell you the truth... Especially since I originally wrote it in French and translated it to English... Crossing fingers...

I am definitely excited as well, and surprised that my story was included. Im sure its going to be a great anthology because there are great minds working behind it!
Craig, I understand your woes, Im a 9-7er myself and can empathize with busy work schedule. But those few moments of peace are well worth it. I thank you for taking the time to read my work, it is very appreciated.
In the meanwhile I've handed out all of the books that Christine gave me and most of the bookmarks. Everyone that knows me knows Another Sky Press...
I wish you all the best.Posted 3 years ago # -
OK, I'm also excited now... cuz I've also been accepted ;)
Can't wait to read you all! Are any of the stories online somewhere? Kirsty? htmldesign? dead clown?Posted 3 years ago # -
i'd much rather wait to read everybody's work after the anth's avail in print & on the ASP site. kinda like a 2nd birthday. 1 gift holding many gifts. although i'm horribly curious what everybody else wrote, i'd actually like to open this gift up when it's ready to be given. but maybe that's just me. thanks for the ear loan! -chrisPosted 3 years ago #

dead clown, I think i did a booboo. next to your reply, I clicked on "smite" instead of "applause", so I clicked on "applause" twice to fix it :)Posted 3 years ago #

i've been checking out your blog. Some very interesting stuff; also dig the short prose you have up... Quarter Past One is real nice. "It's all about style baby, drink it down 'till you drop like a big fat bomb"
kristopherPosted 3 years ago # -
wow, thx dude :)
quarter past one was my "practice" for a poem i wrote for my gf for her b-day. then i used this painting (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:William-Adolphe_Bouguereau_%281825-1905%29_-_Bather_%281870%29.jpg) by William-Adolphe Bouguereau and opened it in Indesign: then I wrote the poem on the "bather's' contour. if you know Apollinaire's calligrams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligram), you have an idea of what it looks like.Posted 3 years ago # -
Ooh, like dead clown I really want to wait to buy the book before reading everyone's stories. I'll bet the rest of you who have stories included are just as excited as I am about seeing your work in a *real* book and I will savour all the stories once I have the book in my hand! But, yay, can't wait to see what ends up alongside my offering and am very curious to see the range of things that made it ;D
Maybe I'm a mean old witch, but I took my story off my website once it got accepted for Falling From The Sky. I just thought that, if it wasn't available on its own anymore, people would be more likely to check it out as part of the anthology. I put links to Another Sky all over the place on my website so people should have no problem finding it here!
However, there are about a dozen other short stories and two whole novels on my website if you want to have a peek at what I write :oPosted 3 years ago # -
Oh good! Started to read Blood Bond just now :)Posted 3 years ago #
-
Fab! Thanks superk ;D Let me know what you think...Posted 3 years ago #

You bet, especially since Craig let me know my story is getting included ;)
In general, though, the whole Another Sky concept just flicks my switch. I think the mass-media has lost the trust of the audience, and is becoming risk-averse, and neo-patronage is a way past that.

I'm excited. I've been fortunate enough to read a few of the accepted stories, and they are absolutely amazing. There is a lot of talent on board. I've also seen the list of accepted authors (there are still some in the approval process, I believe) and it's stellar - everyone's going to be in good company. I look forward to that list going public (soon, soon).
kristopherPosted 3 years ago # -
Just a little note to tell you that with Kristopher's approval, I posted the Falling from the Sky email he sent to all authors on my blog.
I think it's a real interesting subject: how authors are paid (and will not become millionaires), the fact that ASP actually seems to care, etc.

Stellar is an understatement. To be honest with our board members, I suggested, and went into, this project with my standards set low. Maybe I was a bit jaded by what I saw on the bestseller lists. But what we received was... amazing. The editing is a joy because I'm dealing with such original, intellectual material. Good company indeed. I'm grateful.

That's nice to hear!
Do you have an idea when the anthology will be read AND in a bookstore near me (ok maybe just on Amazon and the like :)Posted 3 years ago # -
It will be on Amazon (and available through other online book retailers) within days of it going to press. There is another thread about that -- I believe March is the goal, more info can be found in the other thread.Posted 3 years ago #

ok... as is stated in my profile, im only 15.
this would be a major deal for me.
i am BEYOND excited.Posted 3 years ago # -
hey littlegirl, read about that in your bio, i was shocked :)
congrats, from an old man :)Posted 3 years ago # -
The author profiles are really interesting - I've been visiting some of the websites and things. Haven't got round them all yet, but I will ;)
I am so excited...I'm gonna draw all the attention I can to this!Posted 3 years ago # -
yep but im turning 16 in two days. not that that makes it any better. thats why i thought "littlegirl" would be the most clever name for me. because i am the little girl of the group. hahahaha
either way ive written two books prior to this. i dont plan on publishing them ever. one was poetry and got lost when my comp got a virus and died (stupid technology) and the other was a series of chapters describing different events in my life. 100% nonfiction. raw content. never going to be published because i feel like im a better writer now than i was then and im working on a book now. along the lines of the last but focusing more on the present rather than retelling old annecdotes. a lot of it is just ranting in a creative way or taking a small insignificant part of my day and explaining why it meant so much to me.Posted 3 years ago #
