I'm a tad late on this topic but heck here I go.

I knew I wouldn't manage 50K words, so I just wrote as much as I could. The end result is quite satisfying, 11,500 words of "chassé-croisé" between Montréal, Paris, Tokyo and Brooklyn, a hectic journey into alley and cemetary land, hum yummi.

I think it would be great for another release at ASP (hint, hint :) but it's in French for now.

If you manage some French, it's on my blog at http://lkm696.blogspot.com and it's called "Ell&Il" which means "She & He", I've just taken out the last E of Elle because... well read it :)

Do I win the prize for being dumbest person on the forum?! ::)

Well done on your 'seed' Kristopher (god that sounds rude, you know what I mean!) and I hope you do make it into something more - sounds really exciting! A productive November for you as well by the sound of it.

Well, my NaNo word count is... 0!

But that doesn't mean I wasn't writing. In fact, I think I have found the seed of my next novel. Been writing furiously trying to make it something more. This is a good thing.

Contract - if you haven't already been emailed by someone, the address is on the contract itself.
Yay! Glad you got some useful things out of it, Craig. And that you didn't lose out on your social life or the thanksgiving celebrations. I am still going...up to 88k now although I fell into a planet-sized plot hole at 75k which sent me into a spiral of doom :o

Think this may end up being the novel that never leaves the drawer for me, but it's mainly been fun and I have definitely DEFINITELY learned some useful lessons about planning...and about how much more I could do during 'normal' months.

Hope all is going well on Falling From The Sky...I emailed Krsitopher about the contract as I couldn't see an address to mail it back to ??? Hopefully one of you can advise!

I have a couple of initial chapters, an outline fleshed-out on various pieces of paper and in my head, and I DO plan to write this novel. Eventually. Between work, editing, the attempt to eke out a social life, and Thanksgiving break, National Novel Writing Month didn't quite work out for me this year...

But give me eleven months and I'll be ready. Again. Hopefully.

So, how'd the first day go for you guys? Because I had the day off work, I spent a blissful 7 hours on mine and got 7295 words done...amazing how much you can achieve when you don't have to go to work ;)

Back in the office today though so my word count will be more modest - but can't wait to get back to it tonight.

See, in addition to all the other projects going on, I'm currently working on three writing projects - two shorts and one novel. I feel strange cutting and pasting those works in progress into NaNo, and I feel like starting something new for NaNo would be ignoring them... So... I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that.

Exactly. If I had the time and energy to devote to NaNoWriMo I'd be devoting it to TOPI or Revelation Passage or the new idea lurking in the back of my head that has been haunting me since before Katrina, and is haunting me a lot more now since Katrina gave it a possible ending.

Yep, I know dang well how busy it's going to be (it's called "Falling From the Sky"), but I'm going to give it a shot, regardless. A good way to purge a whole lot of ideas and try to work them into semi-cohesive, coherent form.
I've signed up for it! My username is (oh so imaginatively) KirstyCarse - so come and find me when you sign up! I am using the month to kickstart my fourth novel, From Beneath. I accept that writing at such speed with produce a draft that needs substanstial reworking, but I still think that will be very useful and satisfying...ask me again mid-November though ;)

Really looking forward to having extra excuses to write stacks ;D

A old friend of mine has done this religiously for years - I think since the project started. She said it really worked for her - sure, the end result was rushed and choppy and not very coherent, but it still successfully gets the creative juice flowing and leaves you with enough fodder for a good start on an actual novel (or short story, at least). I might try it. Maybe.

Anyone plan to participate? I might, for the fun of it, as time allows - throw a mishmash of sci-fi ideas I have out there to see if I can form a cohesive whole... And though it's not a "serious" competition, I kind of like the time constraint aspect.
