Sweet! Nice write up. Things have been super hectic here (we're about to send our next release to the printer)... thanks for getting the word out.

We're probably going to be doing a big reading in Portland in September - Daniel Scott Buck is working on setting that up.
Hi all,

I've been attempting a bit of promotion for Falling From the Sky in my spare time. I dropped an email to them, and they've been kind enough to put a short news article about the project and Another Sky in general. You can it here : http://www.uksfbooknews.net/2007/07/06/falling-from-the-sky-free-pdf-fiction-anthology-from-another-sky/.
Also -- from what we hear, the reading went smoothly. There was a pre-write up of the event in the SF Chronicle here:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/05/10/NSG0IP23KS1.DTL&hw=another+sky&sn=001&sc=1000

Nice writeup! Except they renamed Craig to 'Craig Featherstone' for some strange reason. Craig -- maybe you should change your name to 'Featherstone'?

Hey superk --

It's out -- sort of. We are still waiting on our shipment from the printer, though it's already up on Amazon.

More info - we were supposed to receive our original proof in early April -- it didn't arrive until near the end of the month. Fortunately, it was golden - no revisions were necessary. We immediately placed our order... and now it's just a waiting game. We should have them any day now, and they will be immediately shipped out to everyone who ordered them, plus the complimentary copies to the authors and reviewers.

As for not responding to your question -- I must have missed it? Was it emailed? Or on here? Hm... will check email -- things have been swamped here lately with two near simultaneous releases and we're playing catchup.

Kristopher

ps- Steve Quinlan (an author) already has a bunch of copies for the reading in San Fran -- we had the printer rush some to him.
I guess all you authors who succeeded in fitting into Falling must be excited to hold a copy of the anthology!

The release date was May 1st and I know the date has been pushed a few times. Is it out yet? When will we be able to smell the ink on the pages?

My last message to Kristopher has been left unanswered...

Update!
Still no fixed date, but we're getting close. Over half of the stories have been finalized (as in, fully edited, approved by author, and laid out in the actual book). The cover is complete. Almost all layout decisions have been made (it's looking fantastic!).

In other words.... soon!

yep but im turning 16 in two days. not that that makes it any better. thats why i thought "littlegirl" would be the most clever name for me. because i am the little girl of the group. hahahaha

either way ive written two books prior to this. i dont plan on publishing them ever. one was poetry and got lost when my comp got a virus and died (stupid technology) and the other was a series of chapters describing different events in my life. 100% nonfiction. raw content. never going to be published because i feel like im a better writer now than i was then and im working on a book now. along the lines of the last but focusing more on the present rather than retelling old annecdotes. a lot of it is just ranting in a creative way or taking a small insignificant part of my day and explaining why it meant so much to me.

I'm excited. I've been fortunate enough to read a few of the accepted stories, and they are absolutely amazing. There is a lot of talent on board. I've also seen the list of accepted authors (there are still some in the approval process, I believe) and it's stellar - everyone's going to be in good company. I look forward to that list going public (soon, soon).

Stellar is an understatement. To be honest with our board members, I suggested, and went into, this project with my standards set low. Maybe I was a bit jaded by what I saw on the bestseller lists. But what we received was... amazing. The editing is a joy because I'm dealing with such original, intellectual material. Good company indeed. I'm grateful.
And a Happy New Year to everyone, but especially supporters of the Press. Is it January? Because it's 63 degrees right now in New York on January 6, where I am in the midst of editing.

The editing is actually... fun. I suppose you have to be one of those "word geeks" to get it. You know, that annoying person who posts corrections to improper grammar on various message boards. I believe "Grammar Nazi" is the preferred term. The editing can be slow-going at times because I am paying close attention to each and every story. They're all superlative, and they deserve the care.

As an editor, I have to point out that the task more difficult than the editing process is story order. I've been back and forth with Kristopher a few times about this, as I value his input (and I thank him because I know he's so damn busy with other "pressing Press" matters).

As for a release date, well, please exercise patience with me. I have to work too many hours to pay for my New York City apartment (fine, I live in Astoria, Queens, but still...) and there's the shambles of a personal life, etc. But be rest assured, "Falling From the Sky" is a priority, and we're looking at March. Perhaps the Ides...

The interior layout is pretty much done, though it needs the final edits to be put in.
The cover is done.
Once Craig has finished editing duties and everything is in it's proper place, there will need to be a round of heavy copy editing from a few kind souls to ensure typos are at an absolute minimum (aka 0) in the version that goes to press.

So, no fixed date yet. The sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned.
Sorry to be impatient, but I just wondered...is there any news on a likely date for Falling From The Sky yet? I am busy spreading the word about it over here and will of course keep up the good work :)

Just a little note to tell you that with Kristopher's approval, I posted the Falling from the Sky email he sent to all authors on my blog.

I think it's a real interesting subject: how authors are paid (and will not become millionaires), the fact that ASP actually seems to care, etc.
