Actually, something I meant to go into more detail with - though our site has been neglected, we've been working on TONS of new projects. We'll be sharing updates on them with everyone this week, actually.

We're hard at work behind the scenes.

What happened is this: we thought we had a completely brand spanking new website 'coming soon'. And then it got delayed. And delayed. And delayed.

As a result, we accidentally let the current site rust. The new site was so close that we were actually doing content updates on THAT site (rather than trying to maintain both). And... then it just never happened, it never went live.

We're currently in talks with a new web site developer in hopes to get our site back on track. In the meantime, we won't make this mistake again.

Just signed up here because as a massive fan of what Another Sky is trying to achieve, and the books it is releasing, i've been pretty sad to see the idea/site/releases somewhat vanish in the last few months.

Thought i'd come on here and ask what the deal is? Just hope you havent given up on a great venture!

in case you're wondering where we've been, we haven't exactly been hibernating. the site is getting a complete rebuild (not just a design upgrade) and will be much more community oriented. likewise, we've got a number of books in the works - 4 getting pretty close, with even more queued up. I'm not sure when the site will be be done, but it should be soon...ish.

I've been researching this some. The issue noted by the mod is 'notability'. Which, on the corresponding detail page seems to require 'reliable secondary sources'.

Which translates, I think, to the article by the SF Chronicle:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/05/10/NSG0IP23KS1.DTL&hw=another+sky+press&sn=004&sc=775

And perhaps a few others from Dogmatika, maybe even referencing Click book club on Chuck Palahniuk's site.

Basically, the article needs 'verification' and 'back up' to prove it's something notable.

Now, the question is - how does this happen? I don't believe I'm allowed to modify/edit any article that I'm 'part of'.

Apparently, the Another Sky Press entry at Wikipedia has been deleted. I'm reaching out to the forums for help. I know nothing of Wikipedia, so the reason for the deletion (noted at the linked page) doesn't make much sense to me.

i'm always curious about the future of publishing. and it IS very interesting to see so many publishers (well... relatively) starting to publish their novels for free online. it's good to see, and the more experimental ventures the better.

Oxyfication.net just posted my review of Justin Nicholes's Ash Dogs. Here's the link:

From the site:
Oxyfication is an online creative community which focuses on spotlighting the talents of creative people: writers, musicians, artists, photographers, and so on. It’s about finding out what unites artists just as much as what makes them unique.

Kristopher Young's Click was even part of their book club in 2007.

This is a nice, short article from Publisher's Weekly regarding a Web publishing panel at the currently going-on Book Expo America:

http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6565197.html?desc=topstory#2

Fray.com publisher Derek Powazek says something very interesting; just another example of ASP being at the forefront of the free-media trend:

Publishers must embrace that new generation of “people who come to media expecting participation.” They must look at publishing books as creating relationships with people, “not just ink on paper.”

Bigger's ok but remember it sets the minimum vertical space for each comment. Short comments can end up taking a lot of space (look at camden's entry above this one). So not too big.

Can the 'user name' and 'user type' be moved to the right of the avatar? This helps the vertical problem but might create a problem for the horizontal direction (taking room from text).

I think it's a good idea. When there's a long thread it would make it easier to follow the back and forth. And members can always add their own avatar.

The only issue is does a Gravatar override an Identicon? On the profile page it looks like adding an avatar will but it's unclear for a Gravatar.

If you go to your profile page you should now see a tab for Avatar. This will allow you to upload an avatar which will be shown next to your forum posts (and soon, blog comments once the site is upgraded). The avatar you upload will permanently override any Gravatar you might have. There is also an option called 'Identicon' which essentially auto-creates a unique fractal type image based on your ip and name.

This new forum (and, eventually, the new site) are Gravatar enabled! What does this mean? Go to http://www.gravatar.com and set up an avatar to go along with your posts/replies/etc. They will automatically appear here and anywhere else that is Gravatar enabled (it's popular and will hopefully become even more so).

The only known issue is that you'll need to get your password reset to use these new forums. Once you are properly logged in, you should be able to go to your profile page and change your password to whatever you want.

We're in the midst of upgrading our entire site, and this is just one step along the way. This new forum software will (eventually) be better integrated with the rest of our site instead of being buried deep where no one ever finds it.

The other long term benefit of the software switch is that the user accounts will be the same as for the rest of our site - which will soon have a lot more focus on events, authors, and artists. For example, everyone associated with ASP will be able to post blogs. We also have a few other tricks up our sleeves in the longer term. Your forum account will be the same as on the site once the site itself makes the upgrade switch.

You'll know when - the main site will look quite different.

All the best,

I agree 'Going Back' was a great choice for the reading. As I said in the 'I loved this book....' thread it is one of my favorite chapters.

Anyway, I bought Click last night after the reading at Powell's. The piece you read really spoke to me, as my grandma died about three weeks ago, and you read about the character's dying grandfather. I kept thinking, Yeah, I felt that, or I thought that.

I'm looking forward to more.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the reading, though feel for your loss. In addition to 'Going Back', there's another chapter in Click you might appreciate for similar reasons - 'Their Starkness', about the loss of the narrator's uncle.
I have been reading it. Maybe I'm a third of the way through. I get the feeling when I read it that I get when I watch a David Lynch film, that each scene is its own story.

I take that as a major compliment. Thank you. I agree that most chapters could be considered stand alone - though I also think there is a lot to be learned about each chapter through reading other chapters - imagery and events may take on new meaning.
Strangely enough, that's exactly how I read the novel the third time through. I literally opened the book to a random page, read a chapter, then went on to another random chapter until I had all of them checked off. It was a completely different, but equally valid, I suspect, experience.

That's an equally high compliment. It feels really good to know people are digging deep into Click. I would think you likely learned a lot about the book reading it randomly. I almost read 'Above Me' at the reading until Christine pointed out that it was effectively set in the same room as 'Eyes and Cockroaches' (though one in memory, and one in dream/hallucination). That connection is extremely subtle, so I doubt anyone at the reading would have picked up on, but it led me to read 'Going Back' instead of 'Above Me'. Glad I did.

Anyway, thanks all for the kind words. Made my day.

Caleb! It's really great to hear from you, actually. I love that the book has so many fans and that people have favorite lines and, in general, enjoy it.
Are you a writer in addition to reading?
